Bemo Prince gave up music in the 1980s after a few high profile opportunities in Nashville didn’t go as planned. He moved back home to Columbia, SC and stopped writing music. In 2016, after a series of heart attacks, Bemo’s songs started playing in his head again, along with the realization his grand kids had never heard his music and may never get the chance.
When Bemo asked an old friend for advice about recording some demos to leave behind, the friend’s son, Daniel Machado, a local musician and record producer, saw an opportunity for a larger project: a lost classic country album. Bemo began recording iPad demos of his music, one song at a time, as the music came back to him. Using these demos, Daniel and co-producer Stephen Russ, began discussing ideas for recording full-band studio versions of the songs.
After months of rehearsing with Bemo, Daniel’s band began a two-day live recording session to capture 9 songs as authentically as possible. The live session was followed by a few instrument and backing vocal overdubs. Over 40 years after Bemo began writing songs his record was finally complete.
